Canadarago Lake

The Department of Environmental Conservation reports the lake is one of the cleanest and clearest lakes in New York State. As the result It of a n extensive stocking program by the state, the lake offers a wide variety of species, including walleyes, brown trout, small mouth bass, pickerel, hybrid musky (tiger musky), as well as yellow perch. With many bait shops locally and a state boat launch on State Highway 28, those wishing to fish, water ski, sail or just relax may do so.
You may take a break by docking your boat at Baker's Beach to have a picnic, view special events or just relax.
Lake Profile -Canadarago Lake is a 6 mile long lake and a mile wide in some places. Habitats range from rocky shoals, weedy flats and perfect lily pads for largemouth. The lake reaches a depth of only 40’ deep. The lake has an island as well as a weedy sunken island. There is very nice state launch on the west side of the lake. Canadarago is not an easy lake to fish. Only local seasoned fishermen do well consistently. Fishing Opportunities- Canadarago lake is loaded with fish. The number of walleye in the lake is countless. DEC testing has concluded that the walleye population is flourishing. Walleyes range from 8”-36”, averaging at about 17.5”. Trolling in about 15’ of water outside of the lakes abundant and distinct weed beds has yielded consistent catches of walleyes. This lake is ideal habitat for largemouth bass: miles of lily pads, reeds, weed beds and docks. The average largemouth is around 2.5lbs and the odds of catching a 4+lb fish are good. Swim, boat and fish in the summer and ice fish, cross country ski, and snowmobile (easy access to miles of groomed trails) in the winter. Located in the heart of New York State, Canadarago Lake is one of the cleanest lakes (as rated by DEC testing) in New York State. Canadarago Lake is located 15 minutes from Cooperstown (Baseball Hall of Fame, Glimmerglass Opera, "Field of Dreams" Baseball facilities, Farmer's Museum, Fenimore House, and the Otesaga Hotel), 1 hour and fifteen minutes from Albany and 4 hours and fifteen minutes from lower Manhattan. Canadarago Lake has a surface area of 1,945 acres and a mean depth of 33 feet. Fish species present include brown bullhead, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, pumpkinseed, rock bass, smallmouth bass, tiger muskellunge, walleye, and yellow perch. New York - Boating While Intoxicated:No one may operate a vessel on the waters of New York State while impaired or intoxicated either though the consumption of alcohol or drugs. New York law prescribes heavy fines, imprisonment, and the suspension of operator privileges for violators.In New York, if you are stopped for the suspicion of impaired operation and refuse to voluntarily submit to a breath test, your privilege to operate may be immediately suspended, pending a hearing. This is similar to implied consent on the road. New York, in an effort to send a clear message to our young citizens that underage drinking will not be tolerated, has enacted legislation, for those under 21 years of age, providing for the suspension or revocation of operating privileges if caught drinking while operating a vessel. |
